spending the catholics money, part I
cort, i hope you're sitting down for this.
anyone who knows anything about me knows that i have the ultimate 5 minute face. okay, if we're being honest, it's really about 2.5 minutes. i mean, who has the time to stand in front of the mirror for 45 minutes each morning?!? so, i was in lord and taylor yesterday with money burning in my pocket. i had every intention of substantially expanding ye olde shoe cupboard. i ran into a friend from college who is putting her music degree to excellent use by being a bobbi brown make-up artist. we chatted for a bit and then came, "so, do you need some bobbi brown in your life?" umm....sure, i guess. i was in the market for a new eye situation, so i sat in the chair and let her go to town. one long wear cream shadow in bellini, long wear gel eyeliner in espresso, eyeliner brush, and pot rouge for lips and cheeks in powder pink later, some sort of monster took over. i decided that new mascara, eye make-up remover, and free gift from lancome were needed. and since clinique was pre-ordering free gifts as well, i could use some moisturizer and exfoliating scrub.
then, i went to whole foods for my knife skills class and promtly signed up for 2 more. (rice pudding and grains and beans in 30 minutes)
life with an obsessive personality is never dull. (especially with new exfoliant!)

and thus, it begins
well folks, it's that time of year again. holy week. also known as the week between palm sunday and easter where i willingly sell my musical soul to the catholic church. not to minimize the the sacredness of what occured this week 2000 years ago, but all i can think about is how many pairs of shoes will be added to my closet on that beautiful easter morn!

waving the freak flag high
on saturday evening, my organization had it's annual benefit gala with a perfomance by the peking acrobats. there were delicious hors d'oeuvres, cocktails (mocktails for the mo in the room), and freaks...everywhere.
there must be something wrong with me. paying good money to watch someone turn themselves pretty much inside out and then smile at you from their crotch has absolutely no appeal. i actually felt bad for these circus freaks, and then i remembered...they CHOSE this profession. but then i thought, maybe they didn't. they are from china after all. no one chooses much of anything there. and then i felt bad again.
moral of the story, if you've got a freak flag, keep it to yourself. or at least warn a girl before you parade across the stage with it at mccarter theater!
