a colonial thanksgiving
we decided to rock thanksgiving ye olde school this year in colonial williamsburg, va. we had an awesome time, saw lots of fun stuff, and ate lots of good food. the weather was great and i even got a little sunburned, which mr. i-was-born-on-the-equator couldn't understand. i had to explain the delicacy of pasty-white skin. he never knew how good he had it. here's a random sampling of the large amount of photos taken. i'm really good at saying "would you mind taking a photo for us? thanks so much"...
in front of the governor's palace. love the pomegranate christmas wreaths
thanksgiving in the powatan indian village, or the food of frank's people
thanksgiving at james fort, or the food of my people
the real thanksgiving dinner at kings arms tavern
on the james river
ye olde good times.

life goes on.
*warning - this could be intense*
this is what damien used to say whenever something tragic would happen. like missing a note in his favorite chopin nocturne...life goes on. or spilling some of his delicious skittles...life goes on. or when i'd lament about not being able to go shoe shopping because i had to go to class...life goes on. or the night before he died...becca, life goes on.
i always hated hearing that with a passion because sometimes, life didn't go on. at least 3 years ago it didn't seem too. in fact, i tried everything to make it stop. but even against my stubborn will, life does go on. i will not say it's been easy, or even pleasant. it's been the most difficult thing i've ever dealt with, and sometimes, not so gracefully. but i would have done it all again and i know that damien is proud of who i've become. heck, i'm proud of who i've become.
so, thanks again D for reminding me that life, does indeed, go on.
i'll be loving you always...

i'm pretty much the funnest
i just got back from a two-fold trip to california.
fold one: surprise parents for 50th birthdays. check.
they had no idea any of us were coming. i think they were more excited that the grandkids were at their house, oh well. there were 17 of us for dinner and was it ever delicious! we went back to the house for cake with the kids. good times.
fold two: play hard with the nieces and nephews. check.
we went to ship. wreck. PARK!!! (according to bryce, that's how you have to say it, screaming the word park) we tried to go on friday, but aunt becca had no idea where she was going, so she stopped at the first park she saw! we had roxie with us and it was a blast. roxie insisted on wearing her corduroy suit and cowboy boots, which fell off everytime i took her out of the swings. we agreed that maybe cowboy boots weren't the best footwear option. she'll leave them at home next time. we finally made it to the "real ship. wreck. PARK!" on Tuesday and it was also loads of fun.
thanks to kim and cortney for letting me steal their kids and crash in living rooms. good times, good times.

she thinks I'M angry
my sister, cortney, thinks i have an "angry" blog. whatever that means. so i guess i'll just go with it...
WHY, in heaven's name do people not from california insist on calling it cali? no respectable person from california would ever dream of calling it cali. it does not make you sound cool OR californian.
so there.

he always was my favorite dwarf
that's how i felt today after my 3 day conference ended. all the planning, stressing, and early morning office arrivals were totally worth it because we totally rocked it. i think people were impressed. i still like (most of) my coworkers. everything went off without a hitch and now i need to sleep...for the next week.
good night.

a new haven weekend
i had a lovely weekend in new haven, ct. i went to visit a friend from high school who is doing his residency at yale new haven hospital. he had a few days off and convinced me to scive the catholics, mormons, AND young audiences. it was nice to get away and see something new. since my camera is being el stupido, here's a picture from wikipedia of the yale medical library, which is stunning. apparently, the doctor uses the couches in this room to nap in between shifts.
isn't it weird that someone i went to high school with is a doctor? we're old...

a delicious 4th
my eating buddies for the day, david, carter, and frankie
the view from the "wonder wheel"
nathan's was AWESOME! we watched people consume more hot dogs than one should ever think about consuming. we rode the "wonder wheel" which, surprisingly, lived up to it's name and was full of wonder. we saw coney island side show freaks that pretty much made my life. we ate hot dogs.
after coney island, we headed back into manhatten to wander around the green market in union square. what we found was beyond all description. click here and prepare to be jealous. pictures forthcoming. (it was so amazing, it deserves it's own post!)
we finished our day of gluteney with a bbq and firework watching on the hudson at carter and frankie's apartment. we then ate dessert...again. if you think i neglected to put on sunscreen, you'd be right. if you think my chest and face are now a sea of blistery red, you'd also be right.
sun burn not withstanding, i'd call 4th of july 2008 a smashing success!

eat your heart...or dog out
this is what i'll be doing on july 4th. well, watching really, but still.
who: the cool kids
what: nathan's famous hot dog eating contest
when: july 4th, 12 noon
where: coney island, ny
why: because watching thin asian men eat 50 hot dogs in 5 minutes is the most entertaining and American thing one can do. trust me.
any takers?

i'm a sad panda
induldge me in a brief flashback for reader clarity.
staff meeting, june 2
big cheese: i've been thinking about summer hours. instead of working a half-day on fridays, we'll work and extra hour monday through thursday and take a whole day on fridays.
me, in my head: that sounds like heaven.
big cheese: let me run it by the board, but i think that's what we'll do.
staff meeting, june 12
big cheese: oh, and by the way, we'll be doing our regular summer hours with the half day fridays. don't schedule any meetings for friday mornings. we'll be using this time to do strategic planning.
me, in my head: this day blows.
